Why the Map Pack decides who gets the call
For anything with local intent — a service plus a city, or just "near me" — Google shows a map with three businesses above the organic results. That block takes the majority of the clicks, and for phone calls it takes almost all of them. A business ranked first organically and absent from the map still loses to the three businesses in it.
Placement there is not decided by your website. It is decided by your Google Business Profile: how completely it is filled in, whether your category matches what people actually search, whether your name, address and phone match everywhere else on the web, and how recently anything happened on the profile at all.

Categories and services
The single most common reason a profile underperforms. Your primary category is the strongest relevance signal Google has, and most businesses pick one that describes what they call themselves rather than what customers search for. We check what the businesses currently ranking use, set your primary correctly, add the secondary categories that genuinely apply, and fill out the services list underneath them.
NAP consistency
Your name, address and phone number have to match across your profile, your website and every listing that mentions you. Google reads inconsistency as uncertainty about whether you are one business or several. We audit where you appear, list every mismatch we find, and correct what we can reach.
Photos, posts and Q&A
A profile with no recent activity looks dormant. We set up the photo categories Google expects, publish posts on a schedule, and seed the Q&A section with the questions customers genuinely ask — because if you leave it empty, anyone can answer on your behalf, and sometimes a competitor does.
Reviews and responses
We set up a review request flow you can actually run, and write responses to existing reviews — including the negative ones, which are read far more carefully than the positive ones. We never buy, incentivise or fabricate reviews: that breaches Google's policy and gets profiles suspended, which costs more than the reviews were worth.
Google Maps SEO: what actually changes, and how fast
Within the first few weeks you should see profile views and direction requests move, because those respond to completeness and activity rather than to authority. Calls follow. Map Pack position for competitive service terms moves more slowly, and depends on how many established businesses are ahead of you.
What this does not do is rank your website organically. That is a different job — on-page structure and backlinks — and we sell those separately. If someone tells you a profile optimisation will fix your organic rankings too, they are describing two different products.
GMB optimization and Google My Business optimization — the same job, renamed
Google renamed My Business to Business Profile in 2021, but most of the industry still says GMB, and so do most buyers. If you came here searching for GMB optimization or Google My Business optimization, this is the service you were looking for — the name changed, the work did not.
Worth knowing because it affects what you find when you research: much of the advice still online was written for the old dashboard, which no longer exists. Profiles are now managed directly in Search and Maps.

The limits, stated plainly: we cannot create a profile for a business that does not qualify for one, we cannot remove a legitimate negative review, and we cannot promise a Map Pack position. What we can do is make sure that when Google decides, nothing about your profile is working against you.
